Luwero District Local Government Renovates over 14 School Blocks and Constructs over 5 New Ones Under School Facilitation Gran( SFG).

In a significant boost to the Education sector, Luwero District has successfully renovated over 14 classroom blocks across schools in the District and constructed over 5 new classroom blocks under the 2024/2025 School Facilitation Grant (SFG) provided by the Central Government.

The initiative, aimed at improving the learning environment for thousands of pupils in the District, comes as part of the government’s continued efforts to enhance access to quality education, particularly in underserved and rural areas.
According to District Education Officials, the renovated classroom blocks were in dire condition, with leaking roofs, cracked walls, and inadequate ventilation posing risks to learners and teachers alike. The comprehensive facelift included roofing, painting, flooring, replacement of windows and doors, among others.

In addition to the renovations, five new classroom blocks were constructed to ease congestion in schools that were struggling with overcrowded classes. In some schools, pupil-to-classroom ratios had risen to alarming levels, forcing learners to study under trees or in makeshift shelters.

“This investment is a milestone for our district. We are grateful to the central government for the support through the School Facilitation Grant. The improved facilities will create a safe and conducive learning environment and ultimately improve education outcomes in Luwero,” said Mrs Florence Bbosa Sekitoleko , the District Education Officer Luwero District.
Headteachers and parents have welcomed the improvements, noting that the newly renovated and constructed classrooms have already begun to have a positive impact on pupil attendance and concentration. “Our children now sit in decent classrooms, protected from rain and sun. This is a huge motivation for both learners and teachers,” remarked Ms. Sarah Nalule, a parent at one of the beneficiary schools.
The newly constructed blocks have gone to schools like; St. Mugaga Kikungo, St. Dominic Savio Buvumu, Al-Answar, and Kkalwe P/S and Kyetume SDA P/S
The Luwero District Local Government has pledged to continue prioritizing education infrastructure development in its future budgets and to ensure proper maintenance of the existing facilities.

As the 2025 academic year progresses, the District is optimistic that this renewed focus on infrastructure will translate into better performance and retention, especially in rural primary schools.
